2019 Floods: NEMA DG PAYS A WORKING VISIT TO ANAMBRA STATE TO ASCERTAIN LEVEL OF DAMAGE
The NEMA DG, Engr Mustapha Y Maihaja, visited Anambra State on a flood assessment tour to ascertain the level of Damage caused by the recent 2019 flood.
The DG who was represented by Air Commodore A Iyamu stated that he had received several signals of flood disasters from Anambra State and therefore decided to pay a visit to the state to have a first hand Knowledge of the situation.
During the visit, the Chairman of Ogbaru Local Govt, Arinze Awogu, explained that Ogbaru Local Govt being a coastal local govt has been one of the worst hit in Nigeria each time the river overflows its banks. The LG chairman cried out that there should be adequate plans on ground immediately to receive people in the IDP camps in other not to be caught unawares.
The State Chairman of Nigerian Red Cross Society Anambra State, Branch, Emeka Katchy, while presenting the grand commander of humanity award to the NEMA DG stated that Anambra State has had a good friendly relationship and support of the NEMA DG during several emergency and disaster response in Anambra State in time past.
Receiving the award, the NEMA DG appreciated the Red Cross for always beIing on standby during emergency.
